Chorus of the Underwater Matters: Verse 1.0 is part of a research project that explores how immersive experience through digital narrative practice can enhance our ecological thinking and deepen our understanding of the complex lives of aquatic creatures. Framed around the central question—How can immersive experience through digital narrative practice further enhance our ecological thinking and understanding of the complex life of aquatic creatures?—the project focuses on freshwater macroinvertebrates, whose sensory systems allow them to communicate through sound frequencies that are often overlooked or inaccessible to human perception.
In this first phase, the project presents an atmospheric and multisensory installation prototype that uses AI-generated imagery, 3D animation, and projection techniques to imagine an otherworldly underwater environment. The work introduces speculative macroinvertebrate-inspired beings through animated sequences projected onto mist-filled space. By combining layered visual storytelling with spatial and sensory design, the project invites audiences to experience underwater life in ways that move beyond traditional screen-based media.
As part of a broader creative inquiry, Verse 1.0 investigates how emerging technologies can support new approaches to ecological storytelling—enabling audiences to encounter the unseen, the unfamiliar, and the intricate communications that sustain aquatic ecosystems.
